Dryden Council has voted in favour of scrapping the suspension bridge project.
After hearing a plea from the Downtown Revitalization Committee to keep the project, Council still decided not to proceed by a 4-2 margin.
The bridge over the Wabigoon River was plagued by cost overruns, as a scaled-down version came in $21,000 over budget.
Opponents cited fears of future cost overruns and public opposition.
Supporters of the Suspension Bridge stated the Business community was behind the project and were also concerned the City will lose a measure of credibility with Government funding agencies.
The project was funded primarily by a private donation and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.
Dryden had a one-quarter stake in the $400,000 Bridge.
