Pension Bill and G20-G8 Summit

Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty’s private member’s pension bill has passed second reading.
Rafferty says the bill is now headed to Committee.
The NDP bill aims to change federal bankruptcy rules to give pensioners and laid-off workers of bankrupt companies secured creditor status.
Meantime, the Federal NDP claim Industry Minister Tony Clement is throwing FedNor funding at more than just security at the G8 and G20 summit.
John Rafferty says its fine to keep world leaders safe at the conference, but notes some money is being misspent in Clement’s riding.
Fellow MP Bruce Hyer says it’s inappropriate to spend any FedNor funding on the summits, since it won’t support economic diversification and job creation in the north
