Peter Medwid

After challenging cancer with his unique and tenacious spirit, Peter passed away on March 4, 2004 in the Dryden Regional Health Centre. Peter was born in Dryden, ON on July 9, 1957 to his parents Victor and Sophie Medwid. He received his early childhood education in Riverview Public School and Pinewood Junior High, followed by graduation from grade 13 at Dryden High School. Peter then continued his post secondary education at Confederation College. In the summer of 1979 he was hired on at Ontario Hydro where he received his lineman certification. From there Peter moved to Dryden Town Hydro, had a short tenure at the papermill and then returned to Dryden Town Hydro to assume the superintendent role and eventually becoming the Hydro Manager. Peter will be sadly missed forever by the 3 beautiful daughters God blessed him with, Laura, Sarah, Jaime and their mother Darlene. Also left to mourn Peter’s passing are his loving parents Victor and Sophie, Brother David (Pamela, Michael, Stephanie and Christina), grandmother Mary Medwid, numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. Peter was a very proud and devoted family man; with a strong belief in God. His life centered around his 3 daughters and family. He touched many people’s lives with his unselfish and caring manner. Special holidays and family gatherings were a very cherished time for Peter. Sports played an important role as well in Peter’s life. Coaching his daughters in Girls baseball was one of his greatest passions as well as supporting them by being a devoted and loyal fan. Fishing, hunting and partaking in the outdoors were his time for relaxation. He was an avid curler, golfer, baseball player and earned quite a reputation in the Dryden Oldtimers Hockey League. His most prized baseball memories as a player were the two Dryden Mens Slowpitch Championships, when he played with his father and brother. Honourary pallbearers are Al Raslack, Gary Case, Gard Rutter, Jack Hoey, Bob Ayers, and Fergus Brown. Pall bearers are Ed Weslack, Roger Griffiths, Ryan Bilan, Bob Pinkerton, George Snider, and Don Wesley. Visitation for Peter Medwid will be held on Monday March 8, 2004 from 4:30-8 p.m. Masonic Service will take place Monday March 8, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the Dryden Community Funeral Home. Funeral services for Peter Medwid will be held on Tuesday March 9, 2004 at 1 p.m. at St. Luke’s Anglican Church with Rev. Jody & Rev. Bruce Miles officiating. Interment will follow in the Dryden Cemetery.
