‘Pink Ribbon’ Campaign Underway Across Northwestern Ontario

This is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the Canadian Cancer Society Northwest Region branch has launched its ‘Pink Ribbon’ campaign.

Tiffany Carlin says they are doing it in support of the one in nine women in Canada who will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

The ribbons and donation boxes are at several locations throughout the region.

Carlin says pink ribbons remind women to get a mammogram or to donate to the cause so they can help find a cure to the deadly disease.

New this year is the northern Mayor’s challenge.

Sioux Lookout’s Doug Lawrance and Lee Kennard of Ignace are involved and are drumming up support with various events and promotions.

They join the leaders of White River and Marathon in the campaign.

All four are collecting pledges and Carlin is encouraging local residents to jump on board and help their mayor’s win the challenge, while supporting cancer research.
