Plans For A United Nations World Herritage Sitre

An announcement is expected today on the final details of a plan by the Manitoba government and aboriginal groups to co-manage a huge slice of northern forest.
It would be dedicated as a United Nations world heritage site.
The province has been waiting for the final touches by two northern First Nations before moving ahead with a bid for UNESCO designation for the area.
Environmental groups have hailed the co-management deal, which gives First Nations greater say in development of their traditional territories.
The First Nations on board are Poplar River, Bloodvein, Little Grand Rapids and Pikangikum in northwestern Ontario.
