Ontario’s New Democrats say workers in Thunder Bay will take a
hit if funding for Toronto’s new streetcars doesn’t get moving soon.
Leader Andrea Horwath says the streetcar contract is a boost to Bombardier’s workers at a time when Northwestern Ontario
is losing thousands of jobs.
The province has been asked to pay for one-third of the streetcar project.
Infrastructure Minister George Smitherman says the government is willing to find a way to work with the city to get the streetcars, but applications for funding are still being reviewed.
