Plenty Of Questions And Answers At DHS

Still more questions but this time more answers on a proposal for Dryden High School switching to a grade 7 to 12 model.
The third of three scheduled public consultations was held Wednesday in front of another large crowd at DHS.
Superintendent of Education Caryl Hron says they are maintaining an open dialogue with the community and they welcome their feedback.
Hron says they want to address all concerns and work with parents, teachers and children.
You can still provide feedback by going to the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board website and filling out the survey. (www.kpdsb.on.ca)
Parents have been asking most of the questions however kids are now starting to speak up.
Hron says it’s great to see students getting involved and asking questions.
She says some kids are excited about the opportunity while some still have reservations.
People are still asking questions such as what happens to the grade 6 to 8 Fine Arts program at Open Roads and New Prospect.
Others are worried that two new schools were just built in Dryden, as well as social issues, and that leadership skills may be taken away from students in grade 7 and 8.
To calm some fears the Board stressed a Transition Team will be in place to properly implement the new model and explore parent concerns and find solutions.
Officials stress that DHS has an anonymous bullying reporting portal and students will have access to guidance support.
Hron says the new model could include a separate entrance for grade 7 and 8 students as well as a separate space for breaks, recess and even separate washroom facilities.
She adds the move will allow students to be better informed and prepared to choose their educational and career pathway for grade 9 and will open up many more opportunities.
