Polar Vortex Continues To Impact Northwest

Blame it all on the Polar Vortex.

Environment Canada says the system is the reason for bitter cold temperatures on both sides of the border, even parts of Florida.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says the Vortex is an upper level low-pressure area lying near the Earth’s pole.

He says when those strong winds weaken, it allows intrusions of cold air to come down through a good part of the continent.

Here at home, Coulson says we might get a return to seasonal normals this weekend.

Coulson says normal temperatures for this time of year are around -11, with overnight lows of -22.

However, he warns the relief will be short lived, with colder than normal weather back Monday or Tuesday.
