Pre-Election Promises In Full Swing

All three main provincial party leaders are starting to get election fever.

Premier Kathleen Wynne is pledging more guidance counsellors for Ontario schools.

The Liberal leader says they will spend $120-million over the next three years to add more than 450 new guidance teachers to specifically help Grade 7 and 8 students

Wynne says that will help students better prepare for the transition to high school and learn about future career paths early on.

She says that support will also help improve student success in the classroom.

A campaign promise from PC leader Doug Ford for mental health, addictions programming and housing support.

Ford says he’ll help devote $1.9-billion over the next ten years, with hopes of matching funds from the Feds.

Ford adds he will ease the pressures faced on hospitals currently treating patients with mental health and addictions issues.

He says his party will also work with agencies like the Canadian Mental Health Association to ensure value from the investment.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says a government under her leadership will guarantee universal, free access to take-home cancer drugs.

Horwath says her priority is ensuring cancer patients receive proper treatment they need at home.

She notes a majority of new treatments available are ones that patients can take at home, but Ontario’s current drug program only offers limited access to those medications.
