Premier Says Province Is Reviewing Winter Road Maintenance Contracts

The Premier says she understands that Northerners are concerned about Winter road conditions.

In a year-end interview with Acadia News, Kathleen Wynne admits she has heard calls to return road maintenance work back to the Ministry of Transportation and not contractors.

Wynne says the Ministry of Transportation is reviewing road maintenance contractors work and she expects the very highest standards will be met.

She notes the province has invested $630-million to expand and repair northern highways, but stresses they have to spend the money in the best and safest manner.

Recently, Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell raised the concerns of local residents at Queen’s Park, saying local highway maintenance has been shoddy after major snow storms.
