Northern Ontario’s struggling forest industry is getting a multi-million dollar infusion to help counter high electricity rates, but critics are already slamming the deal.
Premier McGuinty is visiting the region today and is expected to announce financial assistance worth millions to help pulp and paper mills pay their power bills.
The Globe and Mail says the deal includes a 14 per cent saving on electricity.
But Cec Makowski of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Uioin says an electricty rebate won’t be enough to turn the industry around.
McGuinty and National Resources Minister David Ramsay are in Thunder Bay today, where the announcment is expected to be made.
