A sleeping giant awaits Ministry of Natural Resources Fire Crews.
Aviation and Forest Fire Program Officer Terry Popowich says its only a matter of time until a “mega” forest fire hits this area.
Popowich says the Jackpine budworm and storm damage has led to volatile conditions in the Forest.
He says the Ministry has started to ramp up efforts to limit the damage by meeting with forest companies and municipalities.
Officials warn the Kenora area is most at risk.
There have been a total of 11 fires in this Region since the fire season officially began April 1st.
