Proof You Don’t Need To Open Purse Strings For Election Win

Spending more money doesn’t necessarily guarantee better election results.

That’s evident in both the Kenora and Thunder Bay-Superior North ridings.

Figures released by Elections Canada shows that Conservative candidate Greg Rickford spent the most money in the fall federal vote at $163,000, yet he finished in third place.

Howard Hampton spent $150,000 on his campaign, finishing 500 votes behind Liberal Bob Nault.

The Nault campaign was the most frugal of the three main parties spending just $84,000.

The new MP for Thunder Bay-Superior North won her riding despite only spending $90,000 on her campaign.

The incumbent at the time, Bruce Hyer of the Green party, spent the most money at $124,000.

Andrew Foulds of the NDP racked up nearly $120,000 in expenses, while Conservative Richard Harvey only spent $59,000.

In Thunder Bay-Rainy River, only John Rafferty’s expenses are available.

The NDP candidate spent $100,000 on a failed re-election bid.
