The Kenora District Services Board has purchased the former Pinewood School property in Dryden from the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board.
The move paves the way for the development of a housing project in partnership with the Dryden Native Friendship Centre and the Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services.
OAHS Executive Director Don McBain says the goal is to provide safe affordable housing options with associated education, employment and childcare opportunities.
KDSB Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall says they will now work with the City of Dryden and the community on rezoning and official plan requirements.
Wall stresses they will ensure the community and the neighbourhood will both bes fully informed and engaged in the process as they move forward on the developments that will take place.
