Protected Parks Expansion in the North

5-Northwestern Ontario Parks have been added to the Government’s
protected areas system.
Nearly 75,000 will be listed as new Provincial Parks or
Conservation Reserves to protect the water, habitat and endangered species
in the area.
A large chunk of Lake of the Woods is included on the list as well as
the Pipestone area southwest of Dryden and the Rainy Lake Islands southwest of
Atikokan.
The move excludes them from forestry, mining and hyrdopower development
activities.
