The provincial government is being accused of driving mining companies out of the Ring of Fire.
PC critic Vic Fedeli says confidential documents show the Liberal government is proposing a tax on chromite.
Fedeli notes we have a huge mining project in the backyard of Northern Ontario and the first thing the government thinks of is taxing companies more.
He says expected revenue from the new chromite royalty ranges from $6.6-million to $34.4-million a year.
Fedeli suggests the proposed tax caused Cliffs to abandon the massive northern Ontario mining project, and may also do the same thing to NorOnt Resources.
There are reports that NorOnt will pull out of its Eagles Nest Project unless it sees some progress from the provincial government.
Fedeli says the provincial government has had eight years to work on the project, but to date has done nothing to show for its billion dollar infrastructure promise.
