The Provincial Government has signed a new agreement with the Pikangikum First Nation to protect 430,000 hectares of forest land in the Remote North.
The land is part of the Whitefeather Forest initiative.
Natural Resources Minister Donna Cansfield was in Pikangikum this week for the signing ceremony and says the project is moving along smoothly.
Forest management plans will be developed by 2012, with 36% of the Whitefeather Forest to be set aside as protected areas.
Cansfield says the work will also create economic opportunities for aboriginals.
