Most municipalities across northwestern Ontario are looking at a sizable cut to the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund.
That’s the transfer payment cities and towns receive from the province.
Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association President Dave Canfield calls the reductions unfair.
Canfield says the cuts are the equivalent to about a 2% tax increase for some communities, if they can’t find savings elsewhere.
Kenora is looking at a $364,000 hit, while Dryden is losing $116,600.
Canfield adds they aren’t expecting a reduction in social services costs as ambulance and social rates continue to rise.
Money for Pickle Lake isn’t being released as they have yet to file their 2013 and 2014 Financial Information Return.
