Good news for local anglers.
Natural Resources and Forestry Minister John Yakabuski says the province is cancelling planned licence fee increases for next year and removing the $2 service fee for new licences.
In addition to freezing fees, the government is adding two new licence-free fishing events in 2019 on the weekends of Mother’s Day in May and Father’s Day in June.
Yakabuski says that adds to the free opportunities already in place during Family Day in February and the free-fishing weekend at the end of June.
He stresses the moves will make fishing more accessible and affordable.
Yakabuski says it’s also expected to put $2.7-million back into the pockets of Ontario anglers.
He adds the ultimate goal is attracting new anglers.
