It may come as a shock to some, but the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry isn’t able to collect a lot of the hunting and fishing fines that are imposed on convicted offenders.
The latest total of uncollected fines $3.5-million.
According to MNRF spokesperson Jolanta Kowalski, so far, apart from keeping the cases open, there is no plan in place to collect those outstanding fines.
Kowalski says they’re counting on new legislation to help them catch up to those responsible.
However, Kowalski says until the provincial law is approved, it is up to the local courts to enforce the collection of those fines.
