It may be seen as a step in the right direction for northwestern Ontario municipalities who have been urging the government to solve an energy crisis in this region.
The provincial government is looking into giving communities more say in future large energy infrastructure projects.
The Independent Electricity System Operator and the Ontario Power Authority are being asked to develop a new regional energy planning process based on input from municipalities and the energy sector.
The two organizations are expected to report back to the Minister of Energy with a joint implementation plan by August 1st.
