The Ontario government is promising to bring more accountability, oversight and transparency to government and the broader public sector.
It’s planning legislation that gives new powers to Ontario’s Ombudsman over municipalities and school boards and the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth.
Community and Social Services Minister John Milloy says a new patient ombudsman will also be created to investigate complaints specific to hospitals and long-term care facilities.
If passed, the legislation could also see MPP’s expenses and their voting and attendance records at Queen’s Park posted on-line.
The legislation would also review the compensation given to senior executives and give powers to Ontario’s Integrity Commissioner to review expenses in all provincially-funded agencies including Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation.
Premier Kathleen Wynne says the legislation has been a top priority for her since she took office.
