Province Plans To Spend Ring Of Fire Dollars

Michael Gravelle says the government prepares to spend dollars on the Ring of Fire.

The comments come following concern from the opposition that the $1 billion promised in this year’s budget is the same $1 billion put aside for the mining project last year, and that it won’t actually be spent until after 2018.

But the Liberal minister says the recommitment is crucial, and the important thing is that it’s there.

Gravelle adds decisions on how the money is spent will be made once they secure proponents. He says they’re working to bring more partners together, and is renewing his call for the fed’s to get on board.

He says Ontario still very much needs the federal government to match infrastructure dollars before there will be any movement, and that securing those proponents ties in directly to the fed’s jurisdictional responsibilities. (Photo provided)
