Province Plans to Upload Services

The province says it will pay for more of the services downloaded onto cities and towns during the Mike Harris era of the 1990’s.
Municipal Affairs Minister Jim Watson says by 2018, the province will take back almost $4-billion worth of programs.
He told the Association of Municipalities of Ontario meeting in Ottawa those costs never should have ended up on Ontarians’ property tax bills.
Some programs the province will assume include the delivery of social services, affordable housing and child care.
