Province Reacts to Pickle Lake Crisis

A spokesperson with the McGuinty Liberals says the Government
understands the problems plaguing the Township of Pickle Lake.
Mayor Roy Hoffman says the community has run out of money and notes
if the Province can’t fix the problem, it can run the place itself.
Hoffman notes it would take triple-digit tax increases to get the
books close to balanced but adds that would cause a ratepayer revolt.
The Government Spokesperson says the Finance and Municipal Affairs
Ministries are trying to find a solution.
The Rural Ontario Municipalities Association says Pickle Lake’s woes
are just a more extreme example of a Province-wide issue.
