Provincial budget drops Thursday at Queen’s Park

A new provincial budget is to be delivered at Queen’s Park on Thursday.

The Ford government has already announced more funding for primary care, the elimination of the HST on new home purchases and a commitment to improve highway safety in northern Ontario.

Speaking earlier this month, Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfaly says they are still committed to protecting Ontario’s economy.

“We’re doing whatever we can to create jobs and grow our economy,” says Bethlenfalvy.

“And this allows us to keep investing in health care, education, and the public goods that support our quality of life and boost our competitiveness.”

But he warns that the economy is still facing economic pressures.

“Recent job trends show many still feel the pressure. And that is exactly why a pragmatic, steady plan matters. From a fiscal perspective, stability matters,” says Bethlenfalvy.

The previous provincial budget projected a budget surplus by next year.
