The province is committing dollars to get area First Nations off diesel generation.
A $13-million investment to help northern communities in the fight against climate change has been announced, $8-million of that going towards connecting them to the grid.
Aboriginal Affairs Minister David Zimmer says beyond climate change, reducing reliance on diesel fuel will improve quality of life.
Zimmer adds $5-million has been allotted for such things as developing adaptation plans and training.
He notes how many communities will gain access to a micro-grid is up to the partnership, which includes Laurentian University, the Matawa Tribal Council and the energy ministry.
