The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines is touting its investments in highway upgrades in this region.
The government spent $560-million in 2015-2016.
The funding is part of the largest infrastructure investment in Ontario’s history, more than $130-billion over 10-years.
Work that is continuing as multi-year projects include resurfacing 31-kilometres of Highway 17 in the Ignace area.
Another project that’s still on the go is reconstructing and paving a large section of Highway 105, about 30-kilometres north of the Highway 17 junction at Vermilion Bay.
Highway 11 in Longlac, Fort Frances and Atikokan saw considerable work, while numerous bridges and culverts were replaced.
The province says work continues on four-laning the new Nipigon River bridge, as well as twinning Highway 11/17.
