Provincial Response To COVID-19 Challenged Today

Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath will call for two inquiries to be held when Queen’s Park reopens today (Tuesday) for a one day sitting.

Horwath says one would look at the province’s readiness prior to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the governments decision making and actions during it.

“We will need to examine if years of funding cuts, delays in action and mixed messages impacted Ontario’s ability to stop the spread and save lives.”

The other inquiry will focus on Ontario’s long term care homes.

“How the pandemic response left seniors homes so vulnerable, including actions that came to late and loopholes that were left open. And an examination of the future of for-profit homes in Ontario.”

Horwath stresses “We are going to ask questions that no one in that house ever wanted to have to ask or have to answer. And I don’t relish the task.”
