Public Board Looking At Aboriginal Grad Rates

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board says it’s working hard to reduce the graduation rate gap between aboriginal and non-aboriginal students.
The four year grad rate among aboriginal students was down to 61% last year, compared to the overall rate of 77%.
The aboriginal grad rate locally was 69% last year.
Student Success Leader Scott Urquhart says it’s a statistic they take very seriously.
Urquhart says they are working with both staff and students to design programs that fit the needs of their aboriginal students.
He notes school boards across the region have seen lower grad rates among
their aboriginal students, so the challenge is to try and bridge that gap.
