Proactive rather than reactive.
That’s the approach the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is taking as it works with parents on a new absentee policy.
Director of Education Jack McMaster says constant communication with parents is critical.
Staff will contact parents after 5-missed classes and if the problem persists administration will bring the parents in for an interview.
McMaster says they have seen an improvement in class attendance since implementing the strategy.
The policy was modeled by staff at Dryden High School.
