Public Board Set To Officially Name New Sioux Lookout School

The new school in Sioux Lookout will soon be known as ‘Sioux North High School’.

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board will vote on the name at its public meeting Tuesday night.

The name was selected by a Committee of students, staff, First Nations representation and municipal leaders.

The Board conducted extensive public consultations and came up with a short list of three names from over 30-submissions.

58% of the nearly 1,300 people who took part in a survey selected Sioux Lookout True North School.

Following input from students, the committee agreed to abbreviate the name.

Director of Education Sean Monteith has stated that the Warriors nickname will be kept.
