Local residents and businesses are being urged to provide input on proposed food regulation changes.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the goal is to strengthen our world-class food safety system.
Spokesperson Tammy Switucha says the new rules would better protect consumers by putting a greater emphasis on preventing food safety risks.
She adds the changes are also aimed at boosting the competitiveness of food businesses in Canada.
Switucha notes preventive controls can help avoid costly recalls.
Switucha says they are currently holding a 90-day public consultation.
