The NeeChee Friendship Centre and Keewatin-Patricia District School
Board have teamed up to create a unique classroom environment for native
students and now Trustees are looking to expand.
The program has allowed 21-students in Kenora to learn away from the
High School setting, while using First Nation oriented material.
Director of Education Janet Wilkenson says they would like to offer
the same service at other Regional Friendship Centres.
Wilkenson notes they have the resources to run the program in other
communities if there is interest and funding is secured.
She notes they are pursuing a program in Sioux Lookout as a test
case to see how much it would cost without financial support.
