Public School Board Ready For New School Year

Plenty of change at schools across the Keewatin-Patricia School District.
Classes are back in session Tuesday.
Director of Education Sean Monteith says the Board has been working hard over the summer to establish a so-called “cultural room” at Queen Elizabeth High School.
The room will allow for aboriginal smudging ceremonies.
Monteith says another highlight is the ongoing construction of a new rubberized track at Dryden High School.
The biggest change is in Kenora with Grade 7 to 12 now introduced at Beaver Brae High School and French immersion at Valleyview Public School.
In the classroom Monteith says this year will focus on some new learning initiatives.
Monteith says their priority is “putting students first”.
