The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Windigo First Nations Council.
The agreement was inked in Winnipeg at the Windigo Chiefs meeting this week.
The public school board says the arrangement will help students from remote first nation communities as well as their staff.
The MOU covers nine key areas, including professional development, student supports, curriculum, parental participation, human resources and mentoring.
Director of Education Sean Monteith says the agreement has been three years in the making and ensures that they will share their expertise and learning with all communties represented by Windigo.
He adds that it will eventually pave the way for Windigo to become a stand-alone education authority.
