Push For More COVID Testing On First Nations

Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health admits it’s concerning the province has its first positive COVID-19 case in the remote north.

A man remains in isolation at his home in Fort Hope First Nation, sparking concerns of a potential outbreak impacting Indigenous communities.

Dr. David Williams says the province plans to ramp up testing.

“We want to make sure that when we undertake this, in partnership with the Chief and Band Council, along with Federal authorities, be there to give them the testing and results as soon as we can to assist with dealing with that.”

Dr. Williams says there are currently about 12 cases on First Nations in Ontario.

He stresses the ultimate goal is ensuring a quick turnaround for all results.
