The Children’s Advocate for the province is frustrated with the decision to postpone the inquest into 7 aboriginal high school student deaths in Thunder Bay.
Irwin Elman says the issue is too important to keep putting off and the jury roll issue should get resolved sooner rather than later.
Elman says there needs to be a will from the province to proceed and he doesn’t see that right now.
The Chief Coroner of Ontario says the inquest needs to be put off until there are enough First Nations represented on the provinces jury rolls.
The Nishnawbe Aski Nation is echoing Elman’s comments.
Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler says the Ontario Attorney General and the Office of the Chief Coroner need to be committed to the process.
Fiddler says they had expectations that the inquest would get underway right away but the government isn’t delivering.
