The Chief of Rainy River First Nation is taking exception to comments being made by the OPP Commissioner over his forces role in the death of Stacy DeBungee.
Vince Hawkes stated this week that the OPP had reviewed that case and provided a report to Thunder Bay Police.
But Chief Jim Leonard says Hawkes told Thunder Bay Police Chief J.P. Leveque last September he would not entertain such a review while an investigation by the Office of the Independent Police Review Director was taking place.
Leonard is calling for a retraction and an apology from Hawkes for providing what he calls misleading statements.
