The Ministry of Health has appointed Riverside Health Care Facilities as the interim administrator of Rainycrest Home for the Aged given problems at the facility over health and safety concerns of residents.
Since the move was sudden, Riverside Board Chair Craig Saunders notes the ministry has asked officials from Extendicare, a private management firm, to act as advisors during the transition.

A public outcry erupted last year when a proposal came from Extendicare to manage the long term care home.
Fort Frances Mayor Dan Onichuk, who chairs the Rainycrest Board, says he’s concerned about Extendicare’s current involvement at the home and feels the public has been misled.
