Rare Summer Sitting At Queen’s Park

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford will get reacquainted with political life Wednesday.

The PC government has called a rare Summer sitting, marking the first trip to Queen’s Park for the former Federal Cabinet minister.

Ontario Government House Leader Todd Smith says the session was necessary to deal with some time-sensitive issues.

A strike at Toronto’s York University and the cancellation of the Cap and Trade program are at the top of the agenda.

Smith says they will strike the Liberal Cap and Trade tax law from the books and repeal any legislation that would enable a future government to impose a carbon tax.

Smith notes the Summer sitting will likely only last a couple of weeks.

MPP’s will first elect a Speaker of the House today, with a Throne Speech to be read Thursday.
