Not operating a deficit has ended up being costly for the Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital.
The Province recently announced $385 million in funding for Hospitals to deal with a shortfall in operating funds.
The Red Lake facility was 1 of 14 to not get anything and CEO Ken McGeorge says the Hospital Board is angry and frustrated.
McGeorge claims they are being punished for fiscal responsibility.
He says all the money they have in reserves will run out this year to finance $3.7 million worth of upgrades.
The Province is also asking Hospitals to sign performance agreements, a measure McGeorge says doesn’t work and provides no accountability.
