The 70th Annual Kenora District Municipal Association starts in earnest today (Friday) at the Royal Canadian Legion in Red Lake.
The Conference features a number of guest speakers, however no Cabinet Ministers.
Acting President and Red Lake Mayor Phil Vinet is shrugging that off, stressing that they will be meeting with leaders in Toronto in a couple of weeks time.
He says the Conference gives Municipal officials a chance to meet with “grassroots” individuals.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton and Kenora MP Greg Rickford are scheduled to speak today to delegates.
Mining and youth out-migration are among the topics that will be discussed.
An emergency resolution will also be put forward calling on the Federal and Provincial Government’s to proceed as soon as possible with the twinning of the Trans-Canada Highway between Kenora and the Manitoba Border.
While political issues will dominate discussions during the 2-days, delegates will receive a break with guest speakers; Red Bull Air Racer Peter McLeod and famous Fashion Designer Linda Lundstrom, both of Red Lake.
