Red Lake-Madsen School Tree Planting Initiative

Ground will be broken at Red Lake-Madsen Public School Thursday as students will learn the science of tree planting.

Students will be joining special guest scientist Jaclyn Jenner as well as Kaaren Dannenmann from the Red Lake Indian Friendship Centre.

Principal Debra Geary says starting at 9:00am, students will be doing everything from planting new trees to gardening, in hopes for them to understand the importance of having a great environment to learn from.

Geary says they will be planting around 20 trees which consist of Blue Spruce, Birch, Oriental Crab Trees, Lilac Trees and Linden Trees.

She stresses the area they are planting in is used by community members and they want to make sure they are giving back to Red Lake and making it the best green space in the area.

Students will be heading out in different groups today:

9:00-9:30: Kindergarten to Grade 3
9:30-10:00: Grade 4 to Grade 7
10:30-11:00: Grade 6 to Grade 8
