A 49-year-old man from Red Lake has been arrested on charges that include luring a person under 16 and sexual assault.
The charges stem from an incident involving a Winnipeg teenager.
Winnipeg City Police says the man first engaged in online communication with a girl in her mid-teens last December.
After gaining her trust, the man arranged to meet the girl in person.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s Counter Exploitation Unit learned of the case last month.
Police recently located the pair at a home in the city where the man was taken into custody.
It was then that police learned the girl was sexually assaulted.
The suspect was also charged with sexual interference and transmitting or distributing sexually explicit material to someone under 16.
He remains in custody pending a court hearing.
