Red Lake Principal Back From International Conference

St. John Catholic School in Red Lake may be one of the smaller schools in the region, but it’s gaining some international exposure.
Principal Michelle Sawa was one of five Canadian delegates invited to an education forum put on by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Sawa says the ‘Teacher Development Summit’ talked about professional development in the education system.
She notes she was contacted by the Ministry of Education about attending the conference, which took place in Washington, D.C.
Sawa says the conference helped reinforce some of the initiatives they are currently involved in.
She stresses they need to build a culture of trust within staff to improve student learning.
