Red Lake Proud Of New Health Centre

Enhanced services in health care in Red Lake.

The Municipality continues to move forward on improving services with the official opening of the Goldcorp Red Lake Regional Medical Centre.

Dave McLeod is Chair of the Community Health Care Committee and says the new Centre is double in size and is a first class facility for staff and patients alike.

McLeod notes the old building was cramped, 40-years-old, with poor air quality and mould issues.

He notes patients could hear what’s going on the adjacent rooms.

McLeod says the new Centre is a great facility for staff and allows room for the Family Health Team.

He adds the next step for health care in the community is the completion of a new and renovated pharmacy at the site of the old centre.

Meantime, Goldcorp says it’s proud to be involved in Red Lake’s new Medical Centre.

George Burns is the Chief Operating Officer and says he’s been involved in the community for eight years.

Burns says six years ago it was a challenge for the community to access quality care and it was hard to recruit workers because they didn’t have quality facilities.

He stresses everything has changed now.

Burns calls this a “very gratifying day”.

The company contributed roughly $5-million towards the project.
