A teacher in Red Lake has been recognized for their work in the community.
Tom Doherty has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
“I am truly honoured to receive such a prestigious award for doing what I love to do for the past 40+ years living in this great region of Canada,” said Doherty.
Doherty is currently a teacher with the Kenora Catholic District School Board.
He is no stranger to awards previously being awarded the following:
- Lakehead University’s Distinguished Alumni Awards
- Kenora CDSB Director’s Award of Excellence
- Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence
- OTIP Elementary Teacher of the Year
- Dairy Farmers of Canada Teacher Nutrition Award
The Coronation Medal program was created to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.
It recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region, or community in Canada or attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.
In total, the medal will be presented to 30,000 Canadians.
