It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Reginald (Reg) Field, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and great friend, on the afternoon of February 8, 2007, at the Dryden Regional Health Centre. Reg was born in Dryden to Lily and Lloyd Field on January 13, 1950, and soon embraced all that the area had to offer. Reg enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, snowmachining, motor biking, and spending time with his friends. But the greatest love of his life was Hilkka, who he married in 1977 in Mississauga, Ontario. Together, they shared many of life’s adventures. During his working life, Reg was a mechanic at various service stations and dealerships, a carpenter, a construction worker, and co-owner of the Short Stop in Wabigoon, where both coffee and Reg’s wicked wit were readily served up in copious amounts. During his spare time, Reg was a member of the Ham Radio Club, and served as their secretary for many years. He was also a past member of the Dryden Rifle and Pistol Club. Reg was an active member in many Masonic lodges, including Golden Star Lodge #484, Golden Star Chapter #254, Ledger Preceptory #70, Fidelity Council #27, Abram Lodge #24, York Rite College #155, and Khartum Shriners. Reg is survived by his loving wife Hilkka, mother Lily, brother Don, sister Diane, along with numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear and close friends. He is also survived by Taz, Taika, and Missy, the furry loves of his life, who were his constant companions. A Masonic Memorial service will be held for Reg at the Royal Canadian Legion in Dryden, on February 14th at 1:30 p.m. The public is welcome. In lieu of flowers and if friends so desire, donations in Reg’s memory can be made to Lynx Fund (Royal Arch Masons Bursary Fund), the OSPCA – Dryden Branch, or the charity of your choice.
We do not lose the ones we love,
They only go before where there is everlasting life,
Where sorrow is no more,
And there the soul will always live,
And peace is everywhere.
