Ontario Regional Chief Stan Beardy says the way Canada gets its oil to market directly conflicts with Indigenous rights and public safety.
The Chief’s comment follows a second major oil spill over the weekend on Mattagami First Nation territory and the third CN derailment in northern Ontario in less than a month.
Beardy says there are no provisions in place to notify or consult First Nation communities about the transportation of hazardous material through their traditional territories. (File photo)
